The heart of the Senator Diary is the Glashutte Original Caliber 100-13 including 631 components (the diary appointment module alone consists of 340 components). When the set date and time arrives, the alarm rings – for up to 80 seconds.

Sometimes a backward glance can inspire a decisive step forward. The Sixties Iconic Collection is a tribute to the unforgettable design of iconic timepieces from the 1960s. The special collection comprises five colourful watches in the unmistakable style of the popular Sixties line from Glashutte Original.
In the 1960s, all around the world, a new way of looking at life blossomed. Music, art, design and technology were filled with inspiration and innovative power, introducing an era whose unmistakable style was to have a decisive impact on modern life. In eastern Germany, the German Democratic Republic (GDR) at the time, one also sensed the echo of this attitude towards life.
Today Glashutte Original pays tribute to this iconic era with a special collection, inspired by the design of the models of the time. The Sixties Iconic Collection comprises five elegant, colourful timepieces. They merge the unmistakable design of the sixties with exceptional dials in unique hues that give the models their names: Sixties Red, Sixties Brown, Sixties Golden, Sixties Grey and Sixties Aqua.
All five models offer a delightful surprise in the form of a highly unusual dégradé effect on the dial, which is achieved using an extremely complex and time-consuming process in Glashutte Original's own dial manufactory in Pforzheim, Germany. In this process the dials are first galvanised with great care; layers of lacquer are added by hand in a series subsequent steps.
Throughout, the process is repeatedly brought to a halt to allow the result to be examined by an experienced set of eyes. In a final step, a further colour is carefully applied to this "canvas" using a special spray gun – this technique produces, depending on the angle, an individual colour gradient, known as the dégradé effect, which renders each watch unique.
Three of the five elegant models in the Sixties Iconic Collection combine these unique shadings with a refined sunray finishing: With the Sixties Golden and the Sixties Aqua this results in a golden shimmer or a brilliant turquoise at the centre of the dials blending into a deep black, while the Sixties Red takes on an additional colour: here a luminous yellow changes to intense red.
The subtle colour shading of the Sixties Brown and Sixties Grey models is enhanced by an elaborate imprint. This complex technique makes use of guilloche stamps, which, with the help of a 60-ton press, imprint their filigree pattern on the paper-thin dials.
These stamps, known as "dies", are a further example of extreme authenticity. Almost as old as the historic examples from the sixties themselves, they are tools, around 40 years old, from the archives of the Glashutte Original dial manufactory. They give the model with the brown-black dégradé effect a fine rhombic pattern, while the silver-grey model displays a structure evocative of dewdrops....

Taking great pride in this tradition, Glashutte Original has developed a series of high-end mechanical observation watches. The first, a limited edition in white gold honouring the memory of Julius Assmann and Roald Amundsen, the Senator Observer 1911, was presented in advance of Baselworld in 2012. One of the finest makers of observation watches was Julius Assmann, whose Glashutte firm specialised in the manufacture of these handmade wonders. The precision and reliability of its observation watches - in particular under extreme weather conditions - made them indispensable instruments for navigation officers, pilots, and pioneering explorers such as Roald Amundsen, who took a number of observation watches with him on his legendary expedition to the South Pole.
A highly precise and reliable pocket watch produced by the Glashutte watch company Julius Assmann caught Amundsen’s attention in 1910, and he purchased it at the German Naval Institute in Hamburg. One year later, Amundsen and his team were the first human beings to reach the geographic South Pole....

To begin using this exceptional timepiece, the owner first sets the hour and minute of the home time, which is followed by the synchronization of the home and destination times.
When selecting the home time, the owner sets the time zone governing his or her usual place of residence, selecting it from among 37 different world time zones on the city ring, including those that respect 30-minute (e.g. Delhi, Caracas) and 45-minute offsets (e.g. Eucla), and then adjusts for Standard Time (STD) or Daylight Saving Time (DST).
The time zones on the city ring are indicated using three-letter IATA codes (international airport codes, e.g. FRA for Frankfurt am Main, LAX for Los Angeles International, DXB for Dubai, etc.) and are displayed in two small windows at 8 o’clock on the dial, one dedicated to Standard Time (STD), the other to Daylight Saving Time (DST).
The owner then sets the Perpetual Calendar to reflect the current weekday, date, month and (leap) year.
The extraordinary mechanics of the Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon are set in motion by the traveller who wishes to change the destination time or who wants to simply observe an additional time zone.
If heading East (forwards in time), the traveller turns the crown positioned at 2 o’clock clockwise; if travelling West (back in time), the crown is turned counter-clockwise.
Possible changes of the time zones will not cause a problem for the master watchmakers and construction engineers at Glashutte Original in the near future. To the contrary, as a service to its customers, the Saxon watch manufactory will gladly exchange the city ring should there be a change to the time zones in the future. A special personalization is offered to the proud owner who can have his home town – in the form of an IATA code - printed on the city ring.
The 24-hour home time display at 6 o’clock joins the destination time displays in a functional array crowned by an outstanding example of the watchmaker’s art: the Flying Minute Tourbillon, developed in 1920 by one of Glashutte’s most admired master watchmakers and teachers, Alfred Helwig.
The back of the 48mm platinum case frames an antireflective sapphire crystal offering a clear view of this most complicated of manually wound movements, the Glashutte Original manufactory Calibre 89-01 with more than 500 components.
The base plate features characteristic Glashutte stripe finish, screw-mounted gold chatons, winding wheels with double sunburst decoration and the 72-hour power reserve display. The PanoMaticCounter XL presents its curiously fascinating counter complication in an elegant and effective manner. Red numerals appear on a black ground in a double-digit window at one level positioned at 9 o’clock.
The wearer activates the counter using three pushers positioned on the left side of the stainless steel case. The plus pusher at 9 o’clock moves the count forward, one unit at a time, from 00 to 99; the minus pusher at 8 o’clock counts down, and the zero pusher at 10 o’clock resets to zero (00).
A superb example of the art of engineering, the PanoMaticCounter XL features the Calibre 96-01, a classic column wheel chronograph with flyback function.
Comprising 584 individually-crafted components, the 96-01 is based on the award-winning Glashutte Original Caliber 95.

The Senator Chronometer is the first officially certified chronometer from Glashutte Original. The term “chronometer” denotes an especially accurate clock or watch such as those used for air and sea navigation in the past.
In Germany, wristwatch chronometer certification is administered by the State offices for weights and measurements of Thuringia (LMET) and Saxony (SLME). German chronometers must pass a series of demanding performance and accuracy tests; the exacting German norm requires, in addition, that each candidate for chronometer certification be set to the second and tested in its own case.
A novel stop-seconds/reset mechanism allows the wearer to set the precise time with ease. Pulling the crown stops the time display and causes the second hand to jump to the beginning position, where it remains; the minute hand moves simultaneously to the next full minute.
When the crown is then turned to set the time, the minute hand stops only on the indication of the full minute, thus always guaranteeing the correct relationship between the minutes and seconds displayed.
The layout of the dial recalls that of a pocket chronometer, with subsidiary seconds and power reserve displays along the central axis and the characteristic Glashutte Original panorama date positioned at 3 o’clock.
The silver dial provides a rich contrast for the polished, blued sweep minute and pear-shaped hour hands and hand polished arbor. A milled railroad chapter ring encircles the central time display, and the milled Roman numerals add to the classic appearance of this impressive timepiece....

In 2014, Glashutte Original introduced the new Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date, the most recent addition to its popular 20th Century Vintage Collection, featuring an entirely new chronograph movement designed and built in the German watchmaker’s manufactory in Glashutte.
Glashutte Original created the Seventies Panorama Date with the 1970s in mind, an era of exciting new shapes and developments in design.
The Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date renews the spirit of the collection, presenting essential, elegant dial visuals: the small seconds dial with black and white power reserve indicator appears at 9 o’clock, the 30 minute counter at 3 o’clock.
A somewhat smaller, very stylish hour counter shows Arabic numerals from 1 to 12 in a window centred just below 12 o'clock, harmoniously counter-balanced on the lower half of the dial by the Saxon watchmaker’s signature Panorama Date display.
The indexes are in white gold, the hour and minute hands in white gold with Super-LumiNova highlights for improved legibility.
The dials are framed by a polished, soft-cornered square bezel and satin brushed case in stainless steel that underscores the distinctive, vintage Seventies look and feel....
